Costume Design/Wardrobe

4 Years of Educational Theater Experience:

I have worked at the NYU Steinhardt Costume Shop under Michelle Humphrey throughout all four years of college. This includes working on almost all of Steinhardt’s musicals and operas—often while performing in them!—in addition to productions by the Drama Therapy, Educational Theater, and Dance departments. I have gained experience working as a Costume Designer, Wardrobe Supervisor, Wardrobe Assistant, and Dresser, in addition to day work.

These skills were put to the test when I served as Associate Costume Designer and Wardrobe Supervisor for Steinhardt’s Spring 2026 production of Rent. In addition to collaborating with Michelle, I designed all of Angel’s costumes and built them alongside members of the shop’s team. I also worked as a dresser during the run of the show.

I absolutely love working in wardrobe and design, and plan to pursue it alongside performance work. I nearly cried the first time Angel stepped onstage in the Christmas dress I designed and built, and was applauded. And executing a tough, quick-change backstage or solving a problem on-the-fly always brings a rush! My experience in wardrobe, in performance, and in drag bolster one another, and often inform the creation of my own performance outfits.

HOW IT STARTED:

My love for fashion and costuming began with a glue gun, bedazzling, and the Michael’s clearance rack. I hot-glued some plastic rhinestones to the lapel of an old suit jacket—and was hooked! Throughout high school, I embellished many thrifted suit jackets to wear for performances. I even wore a peacock tuxedo jacket that I embellished for my prom. During this time, I became familiar with draping, and often used materials found on clearance at my hometown Michael’s to fabricate my designs.
